Oatmeal is one of those products I'm a fan of if only for the fact that it has single-serving directions printed right on the label. Plus it's just tasty. I like raisins, cinnamon, and some kind of sweetener like brown sugar, honey, or brown rice syrup. I hear that it can also be made "savory," whatever that means. Does that mean kind of salty? Well, I just got curious, so I did an internet search. One person at chow.com said they put onions, bell pepper, garlic, and tomato in their oatmeal. Others mentioned things like eggs, cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and veggies. If I don't feel like cooking, I'm probably not going to feel like cooking bacon or eggs (well, I don't even like bacon, so that's definitely out), but maybe next time I'll try the cheese thing. Or maybe next time I can muster up the energy to do a little more work that turning on the microwave. It sounds like it's going to taste similar to a rice or a barley dish.
Anyway, my head is spinning with ideas because my go-to meal has just gained so many possibilities for variety. Even on a day when I don't feel like cooking, I kind of want to make food now.
